2021-2024 / starting my own business

Creating Cloudyhills

I turned my hobby into a business.

After relocating to Germany in 2021, I decided to take a hiatus from Product Design to chase other dreams, because life’s short!

I’m extremely proud to have taught myself everything; from video production to building my own furniture, and designing budget-friendly spaces that feel cozy.

In 3.5 years, I accumulated over 400k subscribers and 41 million views on my youtube channel, Cloudyhills.

I found a lot of parallels between making my videos to Product Design.

Problems & Constraints. Opportunities. Research.
Ideation. Execution. Iteration. Presentation.

All the similar steps to what I’d take in Product Design, except this manifested into a piece of furniture or a cozy space I could live in.

We inherited this beautiful standing lamp after our grandmother passed away. To make it a focal point, I created this coffee bar table that has a vintage style to it, which was also my first big woodworking project!
We needed a laundry room but didn't have thousands to spend on custom carpentry, so I hacked 3 different Ikea cabinets!

I created an L-shaped corner door using some 135deg hinges, then painted all the doors and added beadboard wallpaper for a custom look.

I also made a hanging rod and some shelves for baskets for better organization.
Our dining room aka my editing office. The main problem with this room is that there's no sockets, and an ugly wall vent.

I designed this shelving system that had open backs on strategic spots so as to allow air flow, and to run extension cords behind. Plus, it displays our vintage finds and stores away kitchen appliances and pet supplies!
It was summer of 2024 where I achieved my biggest build yet - an outdoor grill station.

The finishes are weather-proof, the countertop is barbecue stain-proof, and it doubles up as storage for outdoor cushions in the winter season.
To build larger pieces of furniture, I needed a dedicated space to store my supplies and more importantly, be messy in.

I turned the small spare room into my workshop and used a modular shelving system to maximise vertical space. I wanted to give it a bright, fresh feeling unlike typical masculine looking workshops.
I built everything in this bathroom; from a wall cabinet above the bathtub to the two peg rails and the sink vanity pictured here.

I also wash all my supplies here, so the extra shelf at the bottom of the vanity is for drying my stuff while keeping the bathroom from looking unsightly.
